Statement by Civil Society Organizations in Yemen on the Killing of Muayad Hamidi, a WFP Humanitarian Worker
Civil society organizations in Yemen express their strong condemnation and deep sadness at the killing of Muayad Hamidi, a WFP worker in Yemen. It is a heinous and condemnable crime in the strongest terms.
Yemeni organizations declare their full solidarity with all WFP staff, and emphasize the importance of the Programme's major humanitarian role in providing relief to the Yemeni people and food rations to millions of IDPs affected by the *war* and the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
Yemeni organizations *call* on the security services and the concerned authorities to quickly detect the details of the crime, arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The United Nations and the international community must press for thorough and independent investigations into assassinations and arrests of humanitarian workers, and justice for victims and their families, as well as a safe environment for humanitarian action.
Everyone must commit to neutralizing humanitarian action from the conflict and stopping any incitement targeting the work of relief and civil organizations and humanitarian workers.
Deepest condolences to Muayad Hamidi's family, his colleagues at WFP and all humanitarian workers.
